Cooperatives – Overview
The ideal form of organization
The cooperative movement is a philosophy of life, and a social and economic model capable
of promoting both economic development and social well-being. Its fundamental references
are democratic participation, solidarity, independence and autonomy.
It is a system which is based on people and not capital. It aims to work for the group and
not for profit. It seeks common, not individual, prosperity. These differences make the
cooperative movement a socioeconomic alternative where its members are all equally successful.
Associated with universal values, the cooperative movement has developed regardless of
territory, language, creed or nationality.
